     Seniors Love Round Dancing

Judging by the number of dancers that took part in the Panda Rounds Introduction to Round Dancing on Friday 21st May at the Boronia Progress Hall, this activity is very popular amongst seniors in Knox.  It was an Over 55s Zest4Life free event supported by the Knox Council.  Fortunately Covid-19 restrictions were lifted just in time so 75 people were allowed in the hall and the kitchen was open for the refreshment break.  And we didn’t have to wear masks!

Round Dancing is cued ballroom dancing.  It is the easiest way to learn to dance because you are told what steps to take.  You get physical and mental exercise and get to hold a partner as you dance round the room to some great music.

We were taught a few basic Rumba steps by the teacher, Alison, and everyone was dancing to music within an hour.  After the break a couple of new figures were taught, then the lessons stopped and we all began rumba-ing round the room!  The evening concluded with regular Panda Rounds members dancing to different rhythms, such as Waltz, Foxtrot, Cha Cha and Two-Step.  It was beautiful to watch.

Alison offered us a 6-week Beginners Class every Friday to learn Rumba and Waltz.  The majority said “Yes, please” and will be returning to the hall the following week.  Some are even bringing their friends.  One couple commented as they registered for the 6 classes, “We had never heard of Round Dancing before.  How long has this been going on?  What fun!  See you next week.”

Intro #2 – 2019

The Panda Rounds Round Dance Club held a Knox Over 55s Zest4Life Introduction to Round Dancing” event on Saturday afternoon 4th May 2019 in the Boronia Progress Hall.  Over 70 people came along to find out what Round Dancing is all about.  It is cued ballroom dancing and teacher, Alison, taught us some basic Rumba steps.  Within an hour we were all dancing round the hall to music.  We had done our first Rumba round dance!

After the break she showed us a few more steps and we soon felt like experts. We finished with a couple of dances that included all the moves we had been taught. What an enjoyable afternoon it was.  One dancer was overheard as she was leaving, “Wow!  That was such fun.  I’m coming back for more.”  Alison was assisted by her partner, Phil, and Panda Rounds experienced dancers, David, Glenys, Yvonne, Mounir, Dale, John and Jane.

Intro #1 – 2018

The first Introduction to Round Dancing event on 12th May 2018 was hugely successful with over 70 people squeezing into the Boronia Hall. It was promoted as a Knox Over 55s Zest4Life event.  A 6-week Rumba and Waltz beginner’s class followed and the dancers agreed to continue dancing on a regular basis. Panda Rounds Round Dance Club was formed and it began on Friday 13th July 2018.
